Dark Sky Preservation

The Milky Way has vanished from the night skies of 80% of the people on Earth, and some constellations have disappeared from view entirely, leaving a grayish emptiness in its place. A recent report stated that light pollution is increasing by about 10% annually, an alarming statistic.
The night sky has inspired us throughout all of human history. We have created art, music, literature, architecture, religions, and cultural stories under the influence of the stars. Our curiosity and sense of wonder have taken us beyond our planet as we study distant galaxies and other celestial objects. We have learned more about our planet’s history by studying the universe beyond us.
